Moretto's sacra conversazione with the Madonna and Christ Child surrounded by the Fathers of the Church is one of the few large Renaissance altarpiece in the Frankfurt collection. Although this painting, which was completed in the 1540s, could only have stood upon an altar dedicated to the Church Fathers (because of their selection instead of other, more common, saints), it has not been possible to determine where the work was originally displayed or the identity of the patron who commissioned it.
