Portrait of a Child with a Red-Lined Straw Hat
ca. 1635/40

Thanks to the highly differentiated understanding of the portrait, children also gained entry into painting, as evidenced by the Portrait of a Child with a Red-Lined Straw Hat attributed to Pieter Soutman (ca. 1580–1657), a work which came from the collection of the museum’s founder bearing the label “P. P. Rubens.”
