Another artist to take part in the Darmstädter Gespräche – now a representative of abstraction – was Willi Baumeister (1889–1955), who had taught at the Städel School until his dismissal in 1933. He championed an abstract formal language of a metaphysically romantic hue, remotely reminiscent of Klee.
