Accompanied by the slogan “Patria o Muerte” (“Fatherland or Death”), the Cuban Revolution created a new social order on the Caribbean island. It also put an end to many things that were planned or already existed. This historical turning point prevented the completion of a ceiling installation for the casino in Havana, begun in 1959 by the Austrian sculptor Erwin Hauer. In 2006, the relief-like work of modular structures was realized in modified form. Tobias Rehberger, who teaches at the Städel School, is fascinated by the process of continuing a “found idea” that makes its way into reality, adapted to new conditions.
