Live Music, DJ, Art & Drinks in the Städel Garden

The “Städel Sunday Sessions” are returning to the Städel Garden. On two Sundays in July and August, the outdoor area of the Städel Museum will once again be transformed into a vibrant summer hangout filled with music, art and culinary delights. This year, the “Städel Sunday Sessions” form part of World Design Capital Frankfurt RheinMain 2026 and, through workshops and short guided tours, provide a special opportunity for diversity, exchange and dialogue. Live music by Horst Session, DJ sets, refreshing drinks, culinary treats, creative activities, and outstanding works of art will create a varied programme and the perfect finale to a summer weekend in a unique atmosphere.

Programme

Experience Contemporary Art

As part of the World Design Capital Frankfurt RheinMain 2026 programme, this year’s “Städel Sunday Sessions” are guided by the theme “Design for Democracy”. On both dates, a new workshop programme and short guided tours from 4.30 pm to 7.30 pm through the Contemporary Art Collection and the exhibition “Elmgreen & Dragset. Stillleben mit Gemüse” invite visitors to explore different perspectives and engage in conversation with one another.

Offered in both German and English, young art educators open up new ways of approaching contemporary art while addressing social issues such as globalization, emancipation, democracy, and social media. In the open-air studio, visitors of all ages are also invited to get creative and bring their own ideas to life.

Horst Session

Since 2015, Horst Session has provided a platform for the creativity and experimental spirit of the Rhine-Main music scene through its open jam sessions. Across more than 100 events, it has showcased the scene’s diversity and made it accessible to a wide audience. Horst Session brings people together and opens up opportunities for creative exchange, networking, and musical discoveries. At the “Städel Sunday Sessions,” the ensemble of rotating musicians presents a programme of improvised music ranging from avant-garde and bebop to soul, R&B, and UK jazz.
