How much does a visit to the Städel Rooftop cost?

Access to the Städel Rooftop is included in the admission fee of the Städel Museum. You can find out about the ticket prices here or at the museum ticket counter.

Can I visit just the Städel Rooftop?

It is not possible to visit the Städel Rooftop on its own. The Städel Rooftop is part of the Städel Museum visitor experience, which includes the permanent exhibition and the special exhibitions. Access to the Städel Rooftop is via the Old Masters galleries, which is why the museum admission fee must be paid. There is no separate access to the visitors’ terrace.

How do I get a ticket for the Städel Rooftop?

Tickets for the Städel Museum including the Städel Rooftop are available in our online shop or at the museum ticket counter.

How do members of the Städelverein access the Städel Rooftop?

Members of the Städelverein receive free access to the Städel Museum, including the Städel Rooftop, with their membership card.

I have a MuseumsuferCard. Can I go to the Städel Rooftop free of charge?

The MuseumsuferCard is valid at the Städel Museum for visits to the permanent exhibition and temporary special exhibitions from the museum’s own holdings, for the Städel Rooftop, as well as for a diverse programme of guided tours and workshops.

When is the Städel Rooftop open?

The Städel Rooftop is open Tue – Sun from 10 am to 6 pm. Please note the museum’s special opening hours.

Access may be restricted due to weather conditions. The Städel Rooftop remains closed in bad weather and stormy winds. Unfavourable weather conditions include rain, snowfall or risk of slippery conditions due to frost and ice.

Where can I find out whether the Städel Rooftop is open?

You will be informed at the museum ticket counter if the Städel Rooftop is closed due to bad weather or stormy winds. 

How do I get to the Städel Rooftop?

Access to the Städel Rooftop is included in the admission fee of the Städel Museum. It is accessible via the Old Masters galleries in the permanent exhibition. Spiral staircases lead to and from the Städel Rooftop. Please note that access is unfortunately not suitable for visitors with restricted mobility. There is no barrier-free access to the Städel Rooftop.

Can I book and reserve the Städel Rooftop for a private event?

The Städel Rooftop is available to the Städel Museum’s sponsors and partners for events. If you are interested, please contact the Sponsoring & Corporate Events department.

Is there a café on the Städel Rooftop?

There is no café on the Städel Rooftop. The café at the Städel Museum is open Tuesdays to Sundays from 12 noon to 5 pm. We offer coffee and tea specialities and a seasonally changing menu of cakes, pastries, sandwiches and salads.

Is the Städel Rooftop barrier-free?

Access to the Städel Rooftop is not suitable for people with restricted mobility. There is no barrier-free access. For reasons of monument protection, it was not possible to build a lift to the Städel Rooftop. All of the Städel Museum’s exhibition and permanent exhibition rooms are accessible via a lift, which has wide doors and low controls for wheelchair users.
