- Audio guide & app
The audio guide is your perfect companion when visiting the collection or a special exhibition. Put your own tour together according to your interests, favourite subjects and mood. The audio guide offers lots of suggestions for a different visit to the museum every time.
The audio guide is available in German, English, Spanish and French for 4 euros at the cashier’s desk of the Städel Museum.
- Bags, jackets, food and beverages
For security reasons, bags (larger than DIN A4) and jackets must be checked in the cloakroom. In order to avoid unintended contact with the artworks, no articles of clothing may be carried over your arm in the exhibition rooms.
The consumption of food and beverages is not permitted in the exhibition rooms. It is not permitted to take drinks into the exhibition rooms. All such items can be checked in the cloakroom. There are rooms on the ground floor of the main building for attending to infants and small children.
For visitors with limited mobility and visitors with prams or pushchairs, the Städel Museum is accessible by way of a lift. The lift is located on the east side of the building (Dürerstrasse).
Visitors with a degree of disability of 50 per cent or more are eligible for the reduced admission fee. If a “B” has been entered in the disability pass, admission is free for one accompanying person.
For reasons of safety, we reserve the right to regulate access to the exhibition galleries with prams/pushchairs when necessary (e.g. in cases of high visitor volume). The museum offers space for parking prams/pushchairs.
- Cafés and restaurants
Our self-service café is located adjacent to the museum shop. In addition to coffee and tea specialities, we carry an assortment of seasonal offers including sandwiches, salads, cake and cookies. With its incomparable view of the Frankfurt skyline and the River Main, the café is a wonderful place to relax and enjoy. You can also visit the café without an admission ticket for the museum.

The Liebieghaus Café:
A special tip from those in the know: just a few steps away from the museum is the Café im Liebieghaus, where you can enjoy home-made cakes and other small delicacies.

The use of the cloakroom in the Städel Museum is free of charge. The cloakroom is located to the back right of the main foyer area. Visitors must check jackets, bags (larger than DIN A4), knapsacks, umbrellas and large articles that may not be taken into the exhibition. For reasons of space, it is not possible to check suitcases or trolleys. A 1-euro coin is needed to use a locker. We do not accept liability for items checked in the cloakroom or left in the lockers.
Apart from its own diverse programme for the public, the Städel Museum also offers a unique setting for selected private events. Conferences, lectures, company gatherings and other festivities are carried out with great success in the Metzler Foyer, the Metzler Hall, and the Städel Garden. To preserve the quality of this atmosphere – which is as special as it is exclusive – the use of the event facilities is reserved solely for our patrons, sponsors and long-term partners.
Contact Event Management
Family tickets are available at the price of 24 EUR for families of up to two adults with their own children and grandchildren under the age of 18.
Families wishing to reserve tickets online can purchase two online tickets prior to their visit and will then receive free passes for their own children or grandchildren at the entrance.
- Gift certificates/Flextickets
Gift certificates are available at the museum cashier’s desk. Gift certificates and free tickets to the Städel Museum are valid for three years from the date of issue unless a different date of expiry is shown in printing (regular limitation period pursuant to sect. 195 German Civil Code).

In the Städel Museum, persons accompanying groups of children are responsible for their supervision (teachers, kindergarten teachers, etc.).

The members of groups (minimum group size: 10) are eligible for the reduced fee.
Day-care groups and school classes: admission free to 6th form
School classes 7th form and over and students, min. group size 10: 3 euros per person

- Liebieghaus Sculpture Collection
Just a few minutes’ walk from the Städel Museum you will find the Liebieghaus Skulpturensammlung. There you can see sculptures dating from Ancient Egypt to Neoclassicism in the historical Liebieghaus villa, the gallery buildings and the large, park-like garden.

- Museum Embankment Card
The Museum Embankment Card and Museum Embankment Ticket entitle their holders to free admission to all participating Frankfurt museums and their special exhibitions. Priority admission is not covered by the offer and unfortunately also not possible during special exhibitions. Please consult the museum cooperation pool guidelines for the Museum Embankment Card and the Museum Embankment Ticket. On presentation of your Museum Embankment Card or Museum Embankment Ticket plus photo ID at the desk, you will be issued a free admission ticket.
- Museum shop with bookshop and café
On an area of over two-hundred square metres, the award-winning museum shop offers a comprehensive and diverse range of more than six thousand book titles as well as a wide selection of gift articles. The adjoining self-service cafe with a view of the Frankfurt skyline serves coffee and tea specialities as well as a seasonal range of cake, pastries, sandwiches and salads.
Open on Sundays and public holidays. You can also visit the shop and the café without an admission ticket for the museum.

- Online tickets
Online tickets are available at tickets.staedelmuseum.de and entitle holders to priority admission to the Städel Museum. The tickets are valid for one day. The online ticket can be printed out or scanned in as a mobile ticket from the display of a Smartphone. We regret that it is not possible to exchange or return an online ticket.
You can also purchase online tickets with your Smartphone. With your Smartphone browser, go to tickets.staedelmuseum.de. Your ticket will be scanned in via the display of your phone when you enter the museum and does not have to be presented as a print-out.
Please note: Family tickets and reduced-fee tickets can be purchased only at the Städel Museum cashier’s desk. Valid identification is required.
Please be advised that there are no special parking spaces for museum visitors directly at the museum. We therefore recommend that you use the nearby multi-storey car parks.

Regarding the use of camera, audio and video recorders:
The use of cameras (without flash) for private purposes is permitted in the collection and the special exhibitions, except where explicitly indicated otherwise for certain works. Cameras, audio and video recorders may be used for commercial or publication reasons only with written permission from the Städel Museum. To obtain permission, please contact our press department prior to your visit. For the commercial use of photographs, audio and video recordings, as well as for the use of additional lighting devices (flashes, video lights, etc.), tripods, selfie sticks or other equipment, permission must be granted previously by the Städel Museum.
If you like to aquire illustrations of our art works and rights for reproduction, please contact our agency Artothek www.artothek.de. This picture archive does the delivery of digital data or transparencies and there you can do investigation work in a data-bank.

Seats are available in the exhibition rooms. For safety reasons, it is not permitted to take additional stools into the building. Wheelchairs are available on loan from the museum upon request.
For members of the Städelverein and the Städelclub, admission to the collections and all exhibitions is free of charge at all times, with no queueing.
