  • For your visit, you are required to present negative proof (full vaccination, recovery, or negative test result). Please present this to us at the entrance together with a photo ID. You will find further information below in the section ‘Negative proof’.

  • Please buy a timed online ticket before your visit.

  • If you’d like to visit the Städel Museum spontaneously, you are welcome to register your visit right at the cashier’s counter, provided the museum’s current visitor capacity has not been exceeded.

  • Persons holding a press ID, MuseumsuferCard/-Ticket, voucher, or other special entitlement can reserve a time slot for their visit in the online shop and will receive their ticket at the cashier’s counter upon presentation of their proof of entitlement. Please have your reservation, proof of entitlement, and a valid photo ID ready to show upon request.

  • Visitors are required to wear a medical mask (FFP2- or surgical mask) over the mouth and nose. Please bring a mask or purchase one at the ticket desk upon entry.

Questions & Answers

Your health and safety are our priority. This is why the museum’s reopening coincides with a hygiene plan, which is updated regularly and implemented according to official regulations. Precautionary measures for protection against infection include – but are not limited to – the obligation of visitors to present proof of either full vaccination, recovery, or a negative test result, a visitor limit and regulation of visitors through tickets booked for time slots, an optimized system for visitor traffic within the museum, as well as increased sanitation of strategic areas.

The regulated distance of at least 1 ½ meters between individuals, as well as sneeze- and cough etiquette, are to be observed at all times. Visitors are required to wear medical masks (FFP2- or surgical masks), which are to be worn over the mouth and nose. Masks may be brought from home or purchased at the ticket desk within the museum.

Before Your Visit

For you own safety and the safety of others, only come to the Städel Museum if you feel healthy. We kindly ask persons with acute illnesses to refrain from visiting the museum at this time.

The number of visitors is limited. Once the permissible number of tickets/reservations for a given time slot have been sold, we can offer no further tickets/reservations for that time slot. Please check the availability of a different time slot. The ticket/reservation will be sent to you by e-mail. You can present it as a printout or on your smartphone upon entering the museum.

Events

There will be no events in the museum until further notice.

Exhibitions

Along with the presentation of the collection, the special exhibition “New Ways of Seeing. The Photography of the 1920s and ’30s” is open to visitors until 24 October 2021.

You can already look forward to the exhibition highlight “Becoming Rembrandt: Creativity and Competition in Amsterdam, ca. 1630–1655” coming this fall from 6 October 2021 to January 30 2022.

Please note: The section featuring the Old Masters Collection is presently undergoing the installation of a new colour and lighting scheme. This section is therefore currently closed to the public. The permanent exhibition of masterworks from the Old Masters Collection will reopen to visitors in its entirety in the autumn.

With Art Talks we offer a programme of guided tours providing a relaxed atmosphere in which the fine arts will inspire you to perfect your English. The prerequisite is good command of English; no special knowledge is required.

In order to comply with the protective measures against the spread of the coronavirus (Covid-19), please register in advance via . Visitors are required to wear medical mask (FFP2- or surgical mask).

Mouth- and Nose Protection

Visitors are required to wear a medical mask (FFP2- or surgical mask) over the mouth and nose. Please bring a mask or purchase one at the ticket desk upon entry.

Persons who have been fully vaccinated, recovered from corona, or tested negatively for corona are requested to wear a medical face mask and observe the general ‘AHA’ rules (distance, hygiene, masking) during their visit to the museum.

MuseumsuferCard/-Ticket

The MuseumsuferCard and MuseumsuferTicket entitle their holders to free admission to all participating Frankfurt museums. Priority admission is not covered by the offer and unfortunately also not possible during special exhibitions. Please consult the museum cooperation pool guidelines for the MuseumsuferCard and the MuseumsuferTicket (in German). On presentation of your MuseumsuferCard or -Ticket plus photo ID at the desk, you will be issued a free admission ticket.

Persons holding a MuseumsuferCard/-Ticket can reserve a time slot for their visit in the online shop and will receive their ticket at the cashier’s counter upon presentation of their proof of entitlement. Please have your reservation, proof of entitlement, and a valid photo ID ready to show upon request.

Please note
Limitations to the conditions for use of the MuseumsuferCard will take effect at the Städel Museum beginning 1 January 2022. The card is valid for admission to the permanent collections, as well as alternating special exhibitions from the museum’s own holdings. Large special exhibitions with international loans are not included. The yearly event „Nacht der Museen“ is not affected.

Online Ticket and Entrance to the Museum
  • Please buy a timed online ticket before your visit.
  • The timed ticket entitles you to a one-time entry to the museum for the date and time stated on the ticket. It is valid for the Städel collection and all special exhibitions. Every ticket will be accepted only once at the admissions control point.
  • Please note that our time-slot tickets are released in the online shop just a few days before each respective date. To ensure that we can respond flexibly to changes in the health authority guidelines, we are currently unable to offer long-term time-slot planning. If your desired date is not shown yet, please try again later. We apologize for any inconvenience.
  • Please be sure to stick to the time slot you have chosen for your visit. This will enable us to coordinate the influx of visitors in such a way as to maintain the hygiene regulations.
  • Please go to the main entrance and wait at the marked waiting positions. Our staff will regulate admission and scan your ticket.
  • If you have come to the museum to visit the special exhibition, please proceed to the special exhibition as quickly as possible after your ticket is checked.
  • Please observe the rules of hygiene during your visit.
  • Children (dependents) under 18 in the company of at least one adult holding a valid online ticket will be granted admission free of charge.
  • No subsequent returns or refunds.
  • We need your help to ensure that all visitors can observe the ‘AHA’ rules (distance, hygiene, masking). We apologize for any queues and waiting times, for example at the entrances to the locker room and the restrooms.
  • To prevent groups from forming, we have set up guided routes through the museum. Please observe the information signs posted in the museum.
  • Visitors with a press pass, MuseumsuferCard or -Ticket, vouchers, and other special conditions, as well as members of the Städelverein are entitled to visit the museum free of charge. Please ask for a free ticket at the cashier’s desk.
Proof of Negative Corona Test Result

Please note that, due to current official regulations, you can only visit the Städel Museum with negative proof. We kindly ask you to present your negative proof together with a photo ID.

Negative proof (according to §3 of the German Corona Protection Regulation) is:

  • full vaccination protection documented by an official vaccination certificate: date of second vaccination plus 15 days
  • or negative antigen or PCR test result, not older than 24 hours
  • or proof of recovery, at least 28 days and maximum 6 months old
  • children under 6 years of age do not require proof
Rules for Hygiene and General Conduct
  • Only come to the Städel Museum if you feel healthy. We kindly ask persons with acute illnesses to refrain from visiting the museum at this time.
  • Please wear a medical mask (FFP2- or surgical mask) over your mouth and nose.
  • Keep a distance of at least 1 ½ to 2 meters between yourself and other persons.
  • Wash your hands regularly and observe the mandatory sneeze- and cough etiquette.
  • Absolutely no liquids are allowed in the galleries and exhibition areas - this includes hand sanitzer.
  • Be considerate of other visitors:
    . Stay to the right in order to keep the required distance between yourself and oncoming persons.
    . Wait your turn at narrow passageways and stairs and walk when the area is free of traffic.
    . Enter smaller rooms first when the required distance of 1 ½ to 2 meters can be maintained between visitors.
    . Do not linger too long in front of single exhibition pieces, so that other visitors have the opportunity to view the artworks as well.
  • Use of the elevators is reserved for disabled persons or visitors with limited mobility. Please adhere to the rules regarding hygiene while inside the elevators and keep a safe distance when allowing passengers to exit before you enter.
Shop & Bookstore

The Museum Shop and Bookstore are open. The official regulations for retail during the Corona-Epidemic will be observed.

Städel Café

The Café will remain closed pending further notice.

Städelverein/Städelclub

For members of the Städelverein and the Städelclub, admission to the collections and all exhibitions is free of charge at all times. Prior registration ist not necessary.
