May I take a bag, jacket, food, or beverages into the Städel Museum?

For security reasons, bags (larger than DIN A4) and jackets must be checked in the cloakroom. In order to avoid unintended contact with the works of art, no articles of clothing may be carried over your arm in the exhibition rooms.

The consumption of food and beverages is not permitted in the exhibition rooms. Beverages may not be taken into the exhibition halls.  All such items can be checked in the cloakroom.

Is there a free cloakroom at the Städel Museum?

The use of the cloakroom at the Städel Museum is free of charge. The cloakroom is located to the back right of the main foyer area. Jackets, bags (larger than DIN A4), knapsacks, umbrellas, and large articles that may not be taken into the exhibition must be checked in. Due to space restrictions, it is not possible to check suitcases or trolleys. A €1 coin is needed to use a locker.

We accept no liability for items checked in at the cloakroom or left in lockers.

Is there seating available in the Städel Museum?

Seating is available throughout the museum and in the special exhibition. Folding stools are only available for use in the permanent exhibition and are unfortunately not permitted in the special exhibition. Wheelchairs, walking frames, and canes can be hired from the cloakroom.

Does the Städel have a museum shop?

Visit our museum shop and be inspired by selected stationery, accessories, jewellery and books to give as gifts. Browse through our exhibition catalogues and discover our wide range of art cards.

The adjoining self-service café, with a view of the Frankfurt skyline, serves coffee and tea specialties as well as a seasonal range of cakes, pastries, sandwiches, and salads.

Open on Sundays and public holidays. The shop and café are open to visitors without a museum ticket.
