Beckmann & America

7 October 2011 to 8 January 2012

With “Beckmann & America”, a major exhibition was devoted to the late work of this European painter. For Frankfurt am Main, where Beckmann lived, worked and taught at the Städel School from 1915 to 1933, this project was understandably of exceptional significance. Loans from private and public collections in many countries – the lithograph series “Day and Dream” dedicated to America, virtuoso drawings, and forcefully expressive paintings, among them three of his major triptychs from Washington and New York – acquainted visitors with Beckmann’s pictorial worlds in all their broad diversity.
